Week 7 - Buy & Sell Report
By Mike Beacom

Stock Market Report 10-14

Raise of hands – who predicted a 10-catch explosion for Jets rookie tight end Jace Amaro in Week 6? … anyone? Anyone? The team’s second round pick hadn’t been targeted more than five times in any game up to that point, so it caught fantasy owners off guard. But Amaro’s role in the Jets lineup has now been elevated.

Amaro caught 106 balls for pass-happy Texas Tech in 2013 before making his way to the Big Apple, evidence he can handle a heavy workload. And the Jets need someone to big up some weight; teams are keying on Eric Decker, knowing full well New York has few options.

Amaro is better than most fantasy backups at this point, and could become a consistent producer if the Jets continue to look in his direction (12 targets against Denver).

Here are a few other waiver wire candidates to consider ...

RB Tre Mason, Rams
Round and round we go with the Rams backfield, where we end up no one will know. Mason was a popular sleeper this summer but the team decided to lean on Bennie Cunningham and Zac Stacy heading into the season. Those backs have sputtered, and on Monday, Mason led the way with 52 yards on six touches (one catch). Much of it came on one run, but with things stalling in St. Louis, who knows where we’ll be next week?

WR Jarvis Landry, Dolphins
The rookie out of LSU led the Dolphins with 75 yards and his first career touchdown in a close loss to Green Bay. Don’t discount the numbers, either; Landry was productive before and after the Packers suffered secondary injuries and looked good against strong coverage. He could be ready to make a splash.

WR Rueben Randle, Giants
Hard to believe Randle is owned in barely half of the ESPN leagues, but it’s true. That will change now with Victor Cruz down for the count. Randle’s role in the passing game had been growing steadily already (39 targets over the past four weeks). He’s a must-add for those in need of receiver help, but beware: with the No. 1 role comes the full attention of opposing defenses.

The waiver wire isn’t the only way for fantasy owners to improve their roster; a well-crafted trade proposal can help every bit as much as picking up an up-and-coming free agent. Here is a look at this week’s buy and sell candidates:

{BUY}

RB Marshawn Lynch, Seahawks
The Cowboys made the Seahawks look foolish in the biggest game of Week 6, but it doesn’t necessarily trickle down to Lynch, who had a couple nice runs. Lynch is averaging 4.6 yards a carry this season, he just hasn’t been able to get into full Beast mode. Expect that to change. There is (minor) concern in Seattle after the most recent loss and it’s a safe bet the coaching staff will stick to the ground game to crawl out of their offensive funk. Big carries, big numbers, big days ahead for the Beast.

WR James Jones, Raiders
Sure, Andre Holmes is the hot Raiders target right now, and on occasion other guys like Brice Butler come into the picture, but the steady weapon has been Jones, whose 26 catches leads the team. Jones will come much cheaper than Holmes (probably a toss in) which is why he gets the ‘buy’ this week.

{SELL}

RB Justin Forsett, Ravens
It’s safe to presume Forsett will be given a chance to keep the starting job in Baltimore, but it’s very much a revolving door. While he was the hot back last week, it seems to skip week to week, and if there is something fantasy owners should do without it’s inconsistency week to week. The better plan is to send Forsett packing now, taking advantage of his peak value coming off a 111-yard effort.

WR Marques Colston, Saints
Jimmy Graham is down and Brandin Cooks is still a rookie and therefore somewhat unreliable. But both are outperforming Colston, whose name gives him trade value he probably doesn’t deserve. While Colston has averaged 16.5 yards per catch, he’s caught fewer balls than Pierre Thomas. And now the Saints head into a four-week stretch during which they’ll face two of the league’s top five pass defenses. Dump Colston now.
