Week 16 - Buy & Sell Report
By Mike Beacom

Stock Market Report 12-16

Perhaps we should reserve this space for Bill Belichick players, as his guys seem to rotate in and out of favor. Not long ago Gray was the toast of New England thanks to a 201-yard effort. Then he was in Belichick’s doghouse thanks to a bad alarm clock (ahem, right). Now, though, he may be back in Belichick’s good graces just in time for the playoff push.

Gray carried 11 times for 62 yards in the Patriots blowout win over Miami last week. Sure, some of it came when the game was out of hand, but Gray also caught a pass and succeeded whereas LeGarrette Blount did not (2.1 yards per carry).

Expect more of Gray down the stretch as New England searches for the right backfield formula to carry into January football.

Here are a few other waiver wire candidates to consider ...

RB Lance Dunbar, Cowboys
We think DeMarco Murray will play this week, but the small chance he does not is enough to pick up Dunbar, who is usually the No. 2 back in this offense ahead of Joseph Randle. Plus, the Colts allow 4.3 yards a carry and were roasted by unknown Jonas Gray not long ago. Dunbar is a smart pickup for those sweating Murray on their roster.

WR Harry Douglas, Falcons
You could easily dismiss Douglas’ Week 15 performance (10 catches, 131 yards) due to the absence of Julio Jones, but two weeks ago he had 116 yards and last week he caught a touchdown. That’s three productive fantasy weeks in a row, yet he’s only owned in 14% of leagues. Hmmm, doesn’t seem right. The Falcons have no choice but to pass, and the return of Jones will not end Douglas’ late-season hot streak.

The waiver wire isn’t the only way for fantasy owners to improve their roster; a well-crafted trade proposal can help every bit as much as picking up an up-and-coming free agent. Here is a look at this week’s buy and sell candidates:

{BUY}

RB LeSean McCoy, Eagles
Fans that watched McCoy on Thanksgiving saw a different player last Sunday night against the same foe. The Cowboys corralled McCoy, limiting him to just 64 yards on 14 carries and one catch for one yard. But the future is much brighter. The Eagles have lowly Washington and the 30th-ranked Giants run defense left on the schedule. Perhaps the Thanksgiving feast isn’t over quite yet for McCoy.

WR Sammy Watkins, Bills
Credit the Packers for holding Watkins to a season-low one catch last week. That packaged with a six-game touchdown drought should make him acquirable for fantasy owners in need of receiver help. And Watkins is someone worth shopping for. This week he faces an Oakland secondary that has allowed 25 passing scores so far this season.

{SELL}

RB Jeremy Hill, Bengals
Call it what it is – Hill mopped up on a sorry Browns defense that received no help from Johnny Manziel and the offense last Sunday. For that, Hill was able to carry 25 times and post a season-best 148 yards and two touchdowns. Thing is, Giovanni Bernard was equally as successful (minus the scores) and the two will trade work in the final two games of the year. See if you can maximize Hill’s trade value.

WR Mike Wallace, Dolphins
Too little, too late. Wallace’s first 100-yard game came in Week 15 after a string of sub 40-yard efforts in November and December. And only two of his eight touchdown catches have come in the past five games. Fantasy owners should be fed up with Wallace but could use his “big day” against the Patriots as a means to unloading him.
